How can I appeal my penalty fare notice?

You are required to purchase a ticket before boarding Nottingham Trams. You must buy your ticket or scan your travel card whilst on the platform. You must complete your purchase or scan your travel card before you board the tram.

Our staff are always out on the network inspecting tickets. If you are found to be travelling without a ticket or have made your purchase via our app whilst already on board our trams, you will be asked to alight at the next stop and issued a penalty fare notice.

You are entitled to appeal your penalty fare notice, however, it's unlikely your appeal would be accepted if you did not have a ticket that was valid for your entire journey or it was confirmed that a purchase was made whilst on board the tram.

Appeals are only accepted under exceptional circumstances or once you can provide evidence that a ticket was purchased for your entire journey and completed before boarding.

If you would like an understanding of whether your appeal would be accepted, you can find out more information at https://www.thetram.net/appeals

Please read the information on our website by clicking the above link or the below image. Details of how you can submit an appeal are also detailed at the above address.
